De schoonheid van vergane glorie
NL Halfvergaan textiel, papier, veren, schelpen, manuscripten uit een ver verleden, elementen uit de Nederlandse klederdracht en objecten met een verhaal fascineren mij. Door wie zijn ze gebruikt of gedragen? Er spreekt een kwetsbaarheid uit en ze nemen je mee naar vervlogen tijden.
Jarenlang verzamelde ik trouvailles die ik kocht op rommelmarkten, in de kringloop of die ik vond op straat. Ook heb ik veel gekregen. Nu ben ik aan het recyclen. Mijn materialen en objecten krijgen een nieuwe rol in driedimensionale stillevens en portretten. Kleur is een belangrijke factor: ik houd van subtiele nuances, onverwachte combinaties, de kracht van zwart-wit en blikvangers als glanzend folie. In mijn werk verbind ik de werkelijkheid met mijn fantasie.

The beauty of faded glory
EN Textiles fragile with age, old paper, feathers, shells, manuscripts from a distant past, elements from Dutch traditional costumes and strange objects fascinate me. Who has used or worn them? What’s the story? There’s a fragility in those things, that is very powerful in transporting you back in time.
For years I have been collecting ‘trouvailles’, treasures found at flea markets, thrift stores or on the street. Some beautiful finds were also gifted to me. Now i am recycling. Found materials and objects are assigned a new role in my three dimensional still lifes and portraits. Colour always plays an important part in my work: I love subtle nuances and also unexpected combinations, the power of black against white and eye catchers like sparkling foil. My work combines reality and fantasy.
