NL De magie van het Koninklijk Huis intrigeerde mij als kind al. Het leek een sprookje, met het prachtige witte Paleis Soestdijk in het groen. Hoe zag het eruit daarbinnen en wat gebeurde er? Mijn vader maakte vaak een omweg zodat ik naar het Paleis kon kijken en dromen.
De bordesscènes op Koninginnedag en de Pro Juventute kalender met foto's van de Koninklijke familie. In September de schitterend getuigde paarden met hun hoefgetrappel, de uniformen, de gouden koets en de dames met hun ruisende rokken en prachtige hoeden.
Hoogte- en dieptepunten van de Koninklijke Familie breng ik tot leven in driedimensionale kijkdozen die soms doen denken aan historische diorama’s. Vergezichten naar verleden en toekomst. Ook hier verbind ik de werkelijkheid met mijn fantasie en telkens realiseer ik mij dat niets is wat het lijkt als je goed kijkt.
EN The magic of the Dutch Royalty has fascinated me since childhood. It seemed a fairy tale, with the beautiful white Soestdijk Palace situated in the green countryside. What would it look like inside and what happened there? My father drove by the Palace, so that i could gaze at it and dream.
Then there was the parade for Queen’s Day on April 30th and the yearly Pro Juventute calender with photographs from the royals’ family album. And in September at the opening of Parliament splendid horses were pulling the Gold State Coach, the whole entourage was in full dress uniform and all the ladies wore wonderful gowns with fabulous hats and jewelry.
In my three dimensional assemblage box art I bring the highs and lows of the Dutch Royal Family to life. The scenes are reminiscent of historical dioramas, panoramas of past and future. I combine reality and fantasy. And when you take a closer look you’ll find nothing really is what it looks like.
